Cavalier Through The Ages

Process
This was my first foray into seriously trying to create Cavalier. The others were just concepts. In all reality, these are all concepts too but led to my current version. I wanted to make Cavalier in all the different comic book eras: Golden, Silver, Bronze, and Modern.
Golden often focused on the publisher in the title rather than the hero. I chose Hope Comics, as hope is my main goal. I made him with a Bear-like helmet, as I love bears and wanted to incorporate it in some way. I decided this was too cartoony later. The armor was based on ROM Spaceknight. The composition was original.
Silver focused on zany stories. I chose to do a doppelganger as that was a common trope. I then decided it would be hilarious to have him slapping himself. I liked the helmet design yet it was far too unrealistic.
Bronze was more gritty oftentimes. I used the Hellboy Seeds of Destruction cover as a reference. I really liked how it turned out but it wasn't Cavalier to me still. A rounded helmet didn't fit. What I did like was the text. The text I used for the title is what I decided to use moving forward. I've purchased it from a creator on Etsy. Also the first idea of Skulltaker from Skeletor.
Modern Age had more dynamic covers. I was lacking in time so I didn't make a background which would've probably made this the best one but it did help me to experiment. I learned from this that blue confused the structure of his simple palette. I changed this later. I wanted to incorporate blue because it is a hopeful color compared to a harsh red. The pose is based on Jim Lee's iconic Superman cover.
